Nothing jejune about these cartoons

December 15th, 2008

So, there’s this whole business about having a kid and how it leads to rediscovering elements of your own childhood. The joys… the toys… the trials… the tribulations…

Like, right now, Sofie is totally into A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Not that it ever dropped off my radar. But I am enjoying it more this year than I have in many years. Although, admittedly, it’s not as though I am once again seeing it through a child’s set of eyes. More like my current 40 year old eyes.

Lucy: Incidentally, I know how you feel about all this Christmas business, getting depressed and all that. It happens to me every year. I never get what I really want. I always get a lot of stupid toys or a bicycle or clothes or something like that.

Charlie Brown: What is it you want?

Lucy: Real estate.

Brilliant.

More cartoonish holiday fun… This is one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes comic strips. I actually cut it out of the Sunday paper when it first appeared and still have it.
