Driving me crazy
Even though I am now a parent, George’s post today is something with which I totally sympathize. License plate messages such as the one that got stuck in his craw (”Only the best dads get promoted to grandpa”) are cloyingly precious, elitist and arrogant. In George’s example, the sticker is essentially saying if you’re male, and you’re not a grandpa, you must be a loser.
His post brought to mind a pet peeve of mine…another irksome phenomenon from the world of bumper sticker philosophy - this kind of crap:
Every kid deserves to be honored at [Wasteland] Middle School.
The idiot p.c.-overboard parents are essentially retaliating over those who display “I have an honors student” bumper sitckers and whining, My kid’s a loser who plays video games too much and barely manages a C average but he still deserves to be honored.
And another thing…
WTF is the deal with those “In loving memory” decals these days? You know, those ones that cover practically the entire back windshield, sometimes with a white chalkesque outline of the loved one’s profile or perhaps part of a collage which may include an Our Lady of Guadalupe decal and a sticker of Calvin (sans Hobbes) taking a piss?

*****
OMG!!! Was just googling to find an image/link to help illustrate aforementioned decals. This site has ‘em for, like, your dog (with choice of various breeds), your cat, your horse (oh, wait… that’s a Great Dane)… There are even two different versions of Hello Kitty decals. (UPDATE 7 Jan 09: There’s a Great Dane decal and a horse one. Just thought you’d like to know.)

BTW… Huh? What’s up with the elk and deer?!

And those stick figure family decals, too, which often include the family’s stick figure dog or cat. And the females are all depicted Stepford-like in skirts, not trousers. Those annoy me, too.
Anyway…
I informed Tim last week that he does not have to get a R.I.P. decal for the car should I move on to that happy hour in the sky. His response: “Oh, thank you Sweetie!” And in his voice, I definitely heard more genuine gratitude than sarcasm. For sure.

Idiot neighbors behind us
I’ve had a headache ALL day. I had the day off; so did Sofie’s daycare provider. Sofie’s energy level was in overdrive today. REALLY challenging when my head felt ready to explode all day. To make matters worse, the idiot neighbors who live behind me decided to have the carpets in their house cleaned. ALL DAY LONG. The carpet cleaning van was parked directly behind my fence, groaning for 8 hours. (I live in a small townhouse with a small fenced-in patio in back.)
I REALLY dislike the Idiot Neighbors Behind Us. (That’s what I call them.) A dad, mom and three kids ranging from about ages 5 to 15. They have a large house which they supposedly built with inheritance money as well as insurance money after the Painted Cave fire years ago. It’s unclear to me either parent has a real and permanent job.
One former neighbor summed it up well when he stated that the idiot neighbors really should be living somewhere where they’d have lots of land, as they are absolutely clueless when it comes to the amount of noise they generate. LOTS of noise. Like, leaving the leaf/wood mulcher running for hours on end as they work in the yard, rather than just turning it on when they actually feed the mulcher. Idiot Dad behind us LOVES his power tools waaaay too much. And his voice is ridiculously loud. Like, if he’s on his cell phone outside, I can hear his entire side of the conversation. And they all shout at each other to converse if they are not all in the same room (let alone all inside the house), leaving all of their windows and doors wide open. And the kids are allowed to scream and wail at full lung capacity when playing outside.
Years ago, I actually would go over and complain. I’d also leave flyers about noise pollution. Nothing ever sunk in.
I SO hate them.
ugh. My headache, which finally dulled a couple of hours ago, is threatening to come back. No doubt provoked by thinking about the Idiot Neighbors.
blech.
NaBloPoMo Day 11, over and out.
